Sutton Coldfield students make the grade - local news
GCSE results were announced on Tuesday to the joy of thousands of local Sutton Coldfield teenagers kept in suspense over the summer.

University places drying up for older students did not prove a deterrent to further education - all the pupils the News spoke to said they would carry on to do A -levels. All secondary schools across Sutton Coldfield and Erdington reported the same or improved results this year. In North Birmingham Academy s first year 85 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades, a 16 per cent improvement. Five or more A* to C grades with English and Maths rose by three per cent to 30 per cent.

In Sutton, GCSE scores have been maintained at Bishop Veseys Grammar School with 61 per cent getting A* or A Grades.

Ninety per cent pupils at Sutton Coldfield 's Fairfax school achieved five A* to C grades - a 20 per cent increase on last year. Over 60 per cent achieved five A* to C grades including Maths and English.

Arthur Terry School, Sutton Coldfield improved with 87 per cent of pupils achieving five or more GCSE grades at A* to C, with 78 per cent achieving five or more including English and Maths. Pupil Libby Franklin, aged 16, from Alrewas, got four A*s, five As and two Bs.

Stockland Green School, partnered with Arthur Terry, saw 46 per cent of students achieve five or more A* to C grades including English and Maths, results having more than trebled in the last two years.


At Plantsbrook 90 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades, a 10 per cent improvement, with 68.4 per cent achieving five or more A* to C grades including English and Maths, up seven percent from last year.

At John Willmott School 78 per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C Grades, up eight per cent.

Fifty-two per cent achieved five higher grades including English and Maths, an increase of four per cent.

All the girls at Highclare School in Sutton Road , Erdington, again gained five or more A* to C grades, with 95 per cent of passes at A* to C grades, 78 per cent at A* or A and B grades and 46 per cent at A* and A grades.
