Sutton Coldfield Banner joy is spoilt by loss of Aston Villa boss - local news
A SUTTON Coldfield teenagers banner of Aston Villa's Martin ONeill has been seen by thousands after it was picked out by press photographers and TV cameramen.

Caitlin Hayes, a 14-year-old Bishop Walsh School pupil from Welford Road,Sutton Coldfield spent nearly 7 days creating the Andy Warhol-like flag to take to Aston Villas Carling Cup final clash with Manchester United, in February.

She received help from dad Kevin, who has a degree in fine art from the University of Birmingham, to make the now famous banner.

But the glum Aston Villa fan can hardly bear to look at it now the O'neils shock exit has left her favourite team in the lurch and the Sutton Coldfield teenager is now considering selling it on eBay.

Im devastated, said Caitlin, who has been a Aston Villa season-ticket holder since she was six. I really liked him. He was so knowledgeable and had such energy. I dont fancy our chances now hes gone.

After four years in the job, Martin ONeill resigned on August 9th, just five days before the start of the 2010/2011 Premiership season.

I feel really angry with him, she added. I dont know how he could leave like that. It must have had something to do with Randy Lerner and transfers.

Id like Martin Jol to be the next manager. If hes any good, I might make a banner of him.

Caitlin and her dad designed the banner on the computer first before printing it out and blowing it up using a projector.

Once enlarged, Caitlin traced it onto a single bed sheet then coloured it in with claret and blue fabric paints.

Mum Margaret, aged 47, said she was extremely proud of her daughters artistic talents.
